After 70 years of exile, God’s people begin re-gathering. They return to Jerusalem and attempt to get back to normal by rebuilding the Temple, implementing the rules and regulations of their religion, and strengthening the walls of the city. Would it be enough?
- When the foundation of the Temple was set in place, the people experienced mixed emotions. As you come out of the exile of quarantine, what emotions have you experienced?
- Ezra returned to Jerusalem intent on “rebuilding the faith” of the people. Ezra was determined to study and obey the Law, and teach it to the people. What is the goal of “teaching” God’s Law to others?
- Nehemiah returned to repair the wall around Jerusalem. What purpose does this wall have? Compare and contrast Nehemiah 7:3 with Revelation 21:25.
