For study and reflection, personally or with family, friends, or your small group:
To help get you started, spend a few minutes talking about love:
-
- How do you know if someone truly loves you?
- What are some characteristics of true love?
- When someone genuinely loves you, how doe it change the way you feel about yourself or your future?
Read through Romans 8. Which promises/acts of love from God are the most meaningful to you? Why? How have you seen them demonstrated in your own life?
Read Psalm 78:1-8. The author, Asaph, indicates that people (especially parents), have hidden the truth from their children. Was this intentional? Unintentional? What were the consequences of hiding this truth (see v8)? Why might someone “hide the truths of the Lord” from others?
In closing…how’s your witness? How are people experiencing the joy that comes from God’s love flowing out of you? How are YOU living in the hope and joy that all of God’s gifts bring to you? Have you been “hiding the truth” of God from others? What difference is this text, study and conversation going to make in your life? What commitments do you need to make and who can hold you accountable to them?
