I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and when I was 6 years old, we moved to Peachtree City, Georgia. Our parents took us to church faithfully, and I went to Toccoa Falls College after high school to study missions. But, I was immature and left after my Freshman year. I met Anne there, and we were married in 1991. We spent the next several years “playing church,” and pursuing our own selfish interests.
In 1995, we both heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and over the next several years became Christians and slowly began to submit our lives to him. By 1998, we had three children, and began to wonder what life would be like if we were serving God in full-time ministry. I went to Dallas Christian College and received a Bachelor of Science in Ministry and Leadership, then Indiana Wesleyan University for a Master of Arts, also in Ministry and Leadership.
My ministry career began with Eastview Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, IA, then Naperville Christian Church in Naperville, IL, and Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN; in each of these roles I worked with students and families. In 2017, I became Lead Pastor at WestWay. I love WestWay and I love western Nebraska!
My hope for WestWay is that we would be a unified church body that is focused on faithfully proclaiming Jesus as Lord through our words and our actions…that people wouldn’t just hear it from us but that they might see it expressed in our lives.
I grew up on a farm in Tilden Nebraska, the youngest of 9 children, in a Christian home where Bible Study and singing worship songs was our way of life. I accepted Jesus as Lord of my life while at church camp at 9 years old. It was also at that camp that I met a cute little girl named Sheryl, who would 11 years later agree to become my wife.
After graduating high school in 1980, I stayed home and farmed for a few years before moving to the western end of the state where I worked on a couple large farms and a Dairy. With each move, my wife and I, and our little family, became involved in the local church leading singing and teaching Bible classes.
In January of 1988 we moved to Gering, NE where I accepted the position as Principal of a very small Christian School that met at The Church of Christ. At that time, I began taking classes at Platte Valley Bible College (now Summit Christian College), and served in the Navy Reserves.
In May of 2001 I joined the staff here at WestWay Christian Church as custodian for 4 months, as Pastor of Children’s Ministries for 19 years and am currently serving as the Pastor of Adult Ministries. Here, our 6 children have grown to adulthood with the help of this wonderful community called WestWay Christian Church.
I was born in Alliance in 1987 and my family moved to the Scottsbluff/Gering area shortly after. I grew up attending church with my family and started attending WestWay when I was in middle school. Through the influence of many loving adults at WestWay, my faith finally became real to me in high school. At a CIY Move event, I devoted my life to full time ministry and made the decision to attend Nebraska Christian College to pursue a degree in Worship Arts.
While at NCC, I struggled with my own immaturity and laziness and ended up being placed on academic suspension. God used this period in my life to learn and grow and continued to place people in my life that would help guide me through that transformation process. It was during this time that I started dating my wife, Meghan. After my academic hiatus I returned to NCC, married Meghan in 2011, and graduated with a BA in Student Ministry in 2013.
While finishing up my degree, I worked part-time at a brand new church plant in Plattsmouth, NE (One Life Church) for two years until we found out Meghan was pregnant with our daughter, Rylee who was born in 2014. We started looking for a full time position and I was hired as the Youth Pastor at Countryside Christian Church in Kearney, NE. We served in Kearney for two years and then moved to Lamar, CO where I served as the Youth/Associate Pastor for five years. Our son, Aiden was born in Lamar in 2016. In 2021, I was hired at WestWay as the Pastor of Creative Arts and we are excited to be back in Western Nebraska ministering at a church that had such a huge impact on my life.
My hope and prayer for the Creative Arts ministry at WestWay would be that we would live out Romans 12…living a life of worship that is evident through the transformation process that God is working out in us.
I was born at Scotts Air Force Base in Illinois in 1990. Growing up I moved a lot, seven times before turning 18 years old, and I went to three different high schools. I eventually ended up in Manhattan, Kansas at Manhattan Christian College. While there I met my awesome wife, Staci and we got married in November of 2014.
After college, we moved to North Carolina where I was the Minister of Youth at Centerview Baptist Church. After a short stint there we both were missing being in the midwest and being around family. My parents suggested that we should look into being house parents. We moved to Nebraska so Staci and I could become Family Teachers at Boys Town. During our 5 years at Boys Town, Staci and I helped raise 39 boys in our 5 years. While at Boys Town we had our daughter.
My goal while at WestWay is to be able to encourage and equip parents and grandparents to raise their children to know and to fall in love with Jesus.
Jim and Linda were married on June 2, 1979 in Charleston, SC and now live in Gering. They have three children and five grandchildren. Jim began attending WestWay in January 1999 and Linda in May of 1998.
Jim has served in various roles here at WestWay throughout the years and has been serving as an elder since 2006. He worked as the Facilities Manager from 2001 to 2023. His hobbies are hanging with his grandchildren and watching/coaching soccer.
One of his favorite chapters of scripture is Philippians 4.
Dave and Alice have been married since May 23, 1976. They have three daughters. Dave is a graduate of Platte Valley Bible College and is the current president of Summit Christian College. He and Alice served on a missionary team with Pioneer Bible Translators for the Mborena people of Papua New Guinea for 17 years. After helping the Mbore project gain self-governance to where it could semi autonomously continue with supervisory and consulting assistance provided by PBT, Dave and his family moved to Dallas, Texas where Dave and Alice served with Pioneer Bible Translators International Office for the next ten years.
Dave co-leads a small group and serves on the Mission Team.
Dave and Chris have been married since December 21, 1971. They have three children and six grandchildren. Dave has held ministries in Arkansas, Missouri, and Wyoming. They moved to Scottsbluff in 1977 when Dave began teaching at Platte Valley Bible College (Summit Christian College). They became a part of the Church at Bryant in about 1978. In 1998, they went with Pioneer Bible Translators to Papua New Guinea. They returned to the states in 2007 and Dave returned to his teaching ministry with Summit. Dave has returned to PNG almost every summer since 2008 to help the Mborena Kam Bible translation project complete the translation of the New Testament.
Dave teaches a Sunday School class and co-leads a small group.
John and Debbie have been married since August 24,1991 and have two children. They have attended WestWay/Church at Bryant since 1993 with a special interest in missions and small groups Bible studies. They have been on multiple mission trips with their children to visit and help with missions in Papua New Guinea and Haiti. John’s favorite and most powerful time of day is his quiet space with the Lord each morning. A Bible chapter that has been very powerful is Psalm 25.
John has been on the WestWay leadership team since around 2000 and has been involved in leading small group studies.
